Africana Studies is an interdisciplinary field that examines the historical and contemporary challenges, experiences, and contributions of Africans, African Americans, and African-descended people throughout the world. The Certificate of Undergraduate Study in NJ Amistad Law: African-American Studies for Future Educators provides content knowledge and preparation for future teachers to develop robust lesson plans on African American history. It will also strengthen the state-wide and local efforts to implement the 2002 Amistad Law, and give students a competitive advantage in the job market as the government increases its efforts to enforce the mandate.
All courses listed are 3 s.h. each. Students must take AFST 11104 Introduction to Africana Studies to fulfill prerequisite requirements for most of the other required courses. Otherwise, courses may be taken in any sequence.
