Bioinformatics is a multidisciplinary field of study that uses computational and statistical tools to answer large biological questions. The advent of next-generation DNA/RNA sequencing and other high-throughput biological techniques has resulted in extremely large datasets. In this program, students will learn underlying biological concepts as well as how to store, process and interpret such datasets.

Rowan Core: 9 s.h.
All first-time Freshmen must complete the University Rowan Core Literacies. There are six literacies: - Communicative Literacy (COML) - 9 s.h. Satisfied by taking the following three courses:
- Artistic Literacy (ARTL)
- Global Literacy (GLBL)
- Humanistic Literacy (HUML)
- Quantitative Literacy (QNTL)
- Scientific Literacy (SCIL)
Majors may suggest courses to fulfill the above literacies and will be applied elsewhere. A complete listing of courses that fulfill the above literacies can be found here Undergraduate Program Requirements . Rowan Experience
Students must satisfy all three Rowan Experience attributes. Credits attached to the courses in this section will apply elsewhere. The attributes are as follows: - Broad-Based Literature Attribute (LIT)
- Writing Intensive Attribute (WI)
- Rowan Seminar Attribute*(RS)
Departments may recommend courses to fulfill these attributes. A complete listing of courses that satisfy these attributes can be found at Undergraduate Program Requirements . *The Rowan Seminar requirement is waived for all students transferring 24 or more approved credits into Rowan University at the time of initial entry. Non-Program Courses: 19 s.h.
Major Requirements: 81 s.h.
Foundational Courses: 16 s.h.
Mid-level Courses: 24 s.h.
Upper-level Courses: 24 s.h.
BINF Restricted Elective Courses: Minimum 17 s.h.
Students should choose at least five courses in consultation with an advisor. At least two BINF Restricted Electives must be 4 s.h. lecture+lab courses; total s.h. of five courses must be a minimum of 17 s.h. Total Required Credits for the Program: 120 s.h.
Completion of 120 semester hours of course work, including the non-program, major and elective courses as well as all Rowan Core and Rowan Experience requirements, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 is mandatory for graduation.
