The Sociology major program aims to develop students’ competence in understanding and analyzing the effects of social, economic and cultural factors across all levels of society. The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology affords its majors strong training in the Liberal Arts as well as a rich foundation for most graduate degree programs and many careers, including law, marketing, medicine and public health, social work, and social science. Students in the Sociology major have the option of taking the General Program, the Applied Concentration, or the Anthropology Concentration for the degree.

Rowan Core: 9 s.h.
All first-time Freshmen must complete the University Rowan Core Literacies. There are six literacies: - Communicative Literacy (COML) - 9 s.h. Satisfied by taking the following three courses:
- Artistic Literacy (ARTL)
- Global Literacy (GLBL)
- Humanistic Literacy (HUML)
- Quantitative Literacy (QNTL)
- Scientific Literacy (SCIL)
Majors may suggest courses to fulfill the above literacies and will be applied elsewhere. A complete listing of courses that fulfill the above literacies can be found here Undergraduate Program Requirements . Rowan Experience
Students must satisfy all three Rowan Experience attributes. Credits attached to the courses in this section will apply elsewhere. The attributes are as follows: - Broad-Based Literature Attribute (LIT)
- Writing Intensive Attribute (WI)
- Rowan Seminar Attribute*(RS)
Departments may recommend courses to fulfill these attributes. A complete listing of courses that satisfy these attributes can be found at Undergraduate Program Requirements . *The Rowan Seminar requirement is waived for all students transferring 24 or more approved credits into Rowan University at the time of initial entry. Non-Program Courses: 21-27 s.h.
Experiential Learning: 0-6 s.h
Choose one course from the following bank of experiential learning courses: Required Foundational Course: 3 s.h.
Required Upper Level Courses: 12 s.h.
Social Institutions Courses: 6 s.h.
Choose two of the following courses. At least ONE must be UPPER LEVEL. Social Processes Courses: 6 s.h.
Choose two of the following courses. At least ONE must be UPPER LEVEL. Sociology Choice: 9 s.h.
Take three additional Sociology courses (any level) Free Electives: 45-54 s.h.
Students should choose Free Electives that satisfy any Rowan Core, Rowan Experience, or Experiential Learning requirements that are not fulfilled by Major or Non-Program courses. |
