The Political Science faculty offers a major program of 36 credits leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree, and a minor program consisting of 21 credits. These programs are open to all students who envision careers as government managers and administrators, public policy analysts, lawyers, journalists, intelligence officers, diplomatic service officers, teachers, lobbyists, public opinion analysts, legislative aides, campaign professionals, or any other career in government or business which requires a broad liberal arts background. The major program aims to provide both breadth of knowledge of the discipline and in-depth studies in areas of the student’s greatest interest. Students must receive a grade of C- or better in all courses satisfying Major requirements.

Rowan Core: 9 s.h.
All first-time Freshmen must complete the University Rowan Core Literacies. There are six literacies: - Communicative Literacy (COML) - 9 s.h. Satisfied by taking the following three courses:
- Artistic Literacy (ARTL)
- Global Literacy (GLBL)
- Humanistic Literacy (HUML)
- Quantitative Literacy (QNTL)
- Scientific Literacy (SCIL)

Students must satisfy all three Rowan Experience attributes. Credits attached to the courses in this section will apply elsewhere. The attributes are as follows: - Broad-Based Literature Attribute (LIT)
- Writing Intensive Attribute (WI)
- Rowan Seminar Attribute*(RS)
Departments may recommend courses to fulfill these attributes. A complete listing of courses that satisfy these attributes can be found at Undergraduate Program Requirements . *The Rowan Seminar requirement is waived for all students transferring 24 or more approved credits into Rowan University at the time of initial entry. Non-Program Courses: 18 s.h.
Courses in this section must be either: Rowan Coure (or former gen. ed.) courses, Rowan Experience courses; or required pre-requisites (not included in the major). Experiential Learning & Applied Politics: 6 s.h.
Choose 6 s.h. through either of the following options: Take 6 s.h. of Public Service Internship, or take 3 s.h. of Public Service Internship and 3 s.h. applied politics course. Choose one of the following courses: 3 s.h.
Major Requirements: 36 s.h.
Foundational Courses: (12 s.h.)
Upper-Level Courses: (6 s.h.)
Political Science Electives: (12 s.h.)
Choose a total of four courses from the following three areas (choosing at least one course from each area); Area 1: American Politics/Public Administration
Area 2: Multicultural/Global Studies and International and Comparative Politics
(Choose at least one course) Area 3: Constitutional Law and the Legal Process
(Choose at least one course) Total Required Credits for the Program: 120 s.h.
