Bachelor of Arts in World Religions

The World Religions faculty offers a Bachelor of Arts in World Religions. The program acquaints students with the world’s great religious traditions and engages them in critical reflection on diverse religious values, ideals, and practices and in inter-religious dialogue. Students graduating with a major in World Religions are well prepared for a variety of careers, as well as for admission to graduate programs in World Religions. The program offers career tracks in pre-law, pre-business, pre-health, pre-government, pre-social work, and pre-journalism. Other related programs include a minor in Philosophy and World Religions, and a minor in Ethics, in addition to the Certificates of Undergraduate Study (CUGS) of 12 s.h. each, in World Religions, Ethics, and Asian Philosophy and Religion. A grade of C- or better must be earned in all World Religions courses.

Rowan Core: 9 s.h.


All first-time Freshmen must complete the University Rowan Core Literacies. There are six literacies:

Majors may suggest courses to fulfill the above literacies and will be applied elsewhere.

Rowan Experience


Students must satisfy all three Rowan Experience attributes. Credits attached to the courses in this section will apply elsewhere.

The attributes are as follows:

  • Broad-Based Literature Attribute (LIT)
  • Writing Intensive Attribute (WI)
  • Rowan Seminar Attribute*(RS)

Departments may recommend courses to fulfill these attributes. A complete listing of courses that satisfy these attributes can be found at Undergraduate Program Requirements .

*The Rowan Seminar requirement is waived for all students transferring 24 or more approved credits into Rowan University at the time of initial entry. 

Program Requirements


Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 in Rowan University coursework. (Transfer courses/credit do not count toward the Rowan University GPA.). A minimum of 30 s.h. of coursework must be completed at/through Rowan University. Only grades of “D-” or above may apply to graduation/degree requirements (Some programs may set higher minimums).

Non-Program Courses: 18 s.h.


Experiential Learning


Students must complete an Experiential Learning course as a Non-program Elective. Students choose from a bank of experiential learning courses: 0-6 s.h. 

Major Requirements: 30 s.h.


Foundational Courses: 3 s.h.


Introductory and Mid-level Courses: 6 s.h.


Choose two courses. One course must be non-western.

Electives-Choose two Introductory, Mid-Level, or Upper-Level courses: 6 s.h.


Capstone: 3 s.h.


Students must attend 2 career events prior to graduation.

Upper-level courses: 9 s.h.


  • 3 Upper level classes Required
  • 2 Upper level classes must be from Departmental Bank
Departmental Upper-level Courses:

Free Electives: 63 s.h.


Students should choose Free Electives that satisfy any Rowan Core or Rowan Experience requirements that are not fulfilled by Major or Non-Program courses.

Total Required Credits for the Program: 120 s.h.
