Bachelor of Arts in Health & Science Communication

The Bachelor of Arts in Health & Science Communication program stresses hands-on experience and critical analysis to train graduates for careers in health and science advocacy, doctor-patient communication, public health campaigns, and mass communication of emerging scientific and health issues, trends and policies.

Rowan Core: 9 s.h.


All first-time Freshmen must complete the University Rowan Core Literacies. There are six literacies:

Majors may suggest courses to fulfill the above literacies and will be applied elsewhere.

Rowan Experience


Students must satisfy all three Rowan Experience attributes. Credits attached to the courses in this section will apply elsewhere.

The attributes are as follows:

  • Broad-Based Literature Attribute (LIT)
  • Writing Intensive Attribute (WI)
  • Rowan Seminar Attribute*(RS)

Departments may recommend courses to fulfill these attributes. A complete listing of courses that satisfy these attributes can be found at Undergraduate Program Requirements .

*The Rowan Seminar requirement is waived for all students transferring 24 or more approved credits into Rowan University at the time of initial entry. 

Program Requirements


Non-Program Courses: 15 s.h.


Courses in this section must not be major courses. 

Courses in this section may satisfy Rowan Core requirements. 

Major Requirements (Foundations, Ethics, and Upper level): 15 s.h.


All students must complete with grades no lower than a C-.

Health & Science Communication Focus Areas


Students will complete one of the following Communication Focus Area and one of the Subject Focus Areas below:

Communication Focus Area: 12 s.h.


Subject Focus Areas: 12 s.h.


Choose one focus area (from Health Communication in the Public Schere, Interpersonal Health Advocacy, or Science and Environment) and complete four courses in it.

Science and Environment Subject Focus Area


Free Electives: 57 s.h.
