Rowan Core: 9 s.h.
All first-time Freshmen must complete the University Rowan Core Literacies. There are six literacies: - Communicative Literacy (COML) - 9 s.h. Satisfied by taking the following three courses:
- Artistic Literacy (ARTL)
- Global Literacy (GLBL)
- Humanistic Literacy (HUML)
- Quantitative Literacy (QNTL)
- Scientific Literacy (SCIL)
Majors may suggest courses to fulfill the above literacies and will be applied elsewhere. A complete listing of courses that fulfill the above literacies can be found here Undergraduate Program Requirements . Rowan Experience
Students must satisfy all three Rowan Experience attributes. Credits attached to the courses in this section will apply elsewhere. The attributes are as follows: - Broad-Based Literature Attribute (LIT)
- Writing Intensive Attribute (WI)
- Rowan Seminar Attribute*(RS)
Departments may recommend courses to fulfill these attributes. A complete listing of courses that satisfy these attributes can be found at Undergraduate Program Requirements . *The Rowan Seminar requirement is waived for all students transferring 24 or more approved credits into Rowan University at the time of initial entry. Non-Program Courses: 28 s.h.
Courses in this section must not be in the Major Department. Program recommendations below Core Courses Required: 33 s.h.
Education Major Requirements. History Courses Required: 30 s.h.
All History Education majors must complete the History Major Requirements as described in Bachelor of Arts in History . Free Electives: 20 s.h.
Recommended courses Total Required Credits for the Program: 120 s.h.
Program-Specific Graduation & Certification Requirements - Students must receive a grade of C- or better in all courses required for B.A. Education
- Students MUST have an overall G.P.A. of at least 3.0 to graduate with the Education degree (Only Rowan University courses count toward the G.P.A.)
- All students must meet Guidelines for Determining Eligibility for Admission to the subject-specific SME program, Admission to Clinical Practice, and Completion of Program (i.e., Benchmark Requirements) - see Guidelines for the list of requirements.
- Students must apply for graduation and teaching certification within the semester in which all such requirements are complete.
- All students must take and pass tests for licensure (see below for details): (1) Praxis II: Social Studies (test code: 5081)
Transition Point/Benchmark #1: Admission to the Pre-Professional Coursework (Enrollment in EDUC 01270 & EDUC 01272) - Declared major in Subject Matter Education (SME) program & eligible Dual major (English, History, or Spanish)
- Submit a clear TB test and NJ DOE Background Clearance as a “Substitute Teacher” using Rowan’s codes of County 15, District 7270 and School 001 for field placement.*Note: Students may be removed from courses with fieldwork if their documents are not submitted to OCE on Tk20.
- Meet minimum overall GPA of at least 3.0.
Transition Point/Benchmark #2: Admission to the Professional Coursework: Year-long Clinical Practice (Enrollment in Clinical Practice I and its co-requisite courses) - Successful completion of Pre-Professional coursework and (SPED 08130) Human Exceptionality with C- or better.
- Submit the “Year-long Clinical Practice Application” on Tk20.
- Complete a minimum of 30 credits in content major courses; prepare a course sequence plan with your advisor.
- No D’s, F’s or Incompletes in any required dual major course.
- Meet minimum overall GPA of at least 3.0.
- Pass the subject-specific Praxis II exam at the minimum qualifying score.
Transition Point/Benchmark #3: Graduation & Certification: (Completion of program, graduation, and application to teacher certification) - Successful completion of all Transition Points above.
- Submit the Graduation application.
- Submit the Certification application.
- No D’s, F’s, or Incompletes; must make at least a C in all courses.
- Meet minimum overall GPA of at least 3.0.
