The PhD in Neuroscience program at Rowan University is a professional terminal degree program designed to prepare individuals for careers in a breadth of fields that leverage neuroscience research and education, including basic and clinical research, the pharmaceutical industry, higher education, and consulting. This program will provide students with the necessary knowledge, skill set, and training to effectively design and answer scientific questions centered on the biology of the nervous system and its relationship to behavior in physiological and pathological states. Students will have access to high-level courses leading to a graduate degree and are involved in hands-on and project-based training, which provides a basis for a career in neuroscience and research in particular.

Program Requirements

The PhD in Neuroscience requires the completion of 72 hours of graduate-level coursework. Completion of coursework will demonstrate knowledge of neuroscience and core cell molecular biology principles. Applied research coursework will provide hands-on experience in identifying and solving a real-world neuroscience problem through laboratory research. Research coursework culminates in a Final Dissertation.

Total Required Credits for the Program: 72 s.h.

72 credit hours of graduate-level coursework. A minimum of 20 hours must come from the core and neuroscience focus course sequence. The additional 52 credits come from the approved hands-on laboratory coursework.
