This hybrid program meets the increasing need for highly qualified practitioners in the area of Reading & Writing Literacy as required by the Common Core English and Language Arts Standards. This program benefits classroom teachers P-12 who wish to increase their knowledge of literacy instruction. Courses in this program also enable teachers to apply for National Board Certification by building content area knowledge in reading and writing. The Certificate of Graduate Study in Reading & Writing Literacy does not lead to any state certification. All courses carry over to either the Master of Arts in Writing or the Master of Arts in Reading as appropriate.

Completed Post-baccalaureate/Graduate/Doctoral Application Form (www.rowanu.com/graduate/apply)
$65 (U.S.) non-refundable application fee
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
Official transcripts from all colleges attended (regardless of number of credits earned)
Current professional resume
Statement of professional objectives
One letter of recommendation that address potential as a leader and potential for graduate study
Minimum GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale)

READ 30520 - Content Area Literacy Credits: 3
MAWR 01549 - Issues in Composition Studies Credits: 3
READ 30536 - Reading & Writing Processes Credits: 3
MAWR 01556 - Assessment of Writing Credits: 3
READ 30552 - Selected Topics In Reading Credits: 3
MAWR 01618 - Special Topics Credits: 3 to 6

Note:

All READ courses are offered online in an 8-week format. All MAWR courses are offered face-to-face in a 15-week format.

Minimum Required Grades and Cumulative GPA

All matriculated and graduate students are expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress each term of enrollment.
To maintain satisfactory academic progress and to successfully complete the program, students must:
Earn a B- or better in all coursework.
Earn an official cumulative GPA (according to matriculation level) of at least 3.000 on Rowan’s 4.000 scale.

The Certificate of Graduate Study in Reading/Writing Literacy is a Category 2 program.
