Mission

At the School of Translational Biomedical Engineering & Sciences, our mission is to unite life science and engineering researchers from Rowan University and Virtua Health College of Medicine & Life Sciences, fostering collaboration to translate innovation and discovery into tangible advancements in everyday practice. Serving as the nexus of research for Virtua Health, our school harnesses Rowan’s existing strengths and degree programs while nurturing new faculty, research institutes, degree programs, and partnerships.

Our vision is to emerge as a preeminent leader in healthcare discovery and innovation on a national scale. We are dedicated to driving the evolution, translation, and dissemination of groundbreaking technologies, therapies, and discoveries to improve health outcomes for all individuals, while simultaneously preparing the next generation of research leaders.

At the heart of our mission lies a commitment to pioneering research and addressing real-world challenges. Our programs prioritize the development of new knowledge, therapies, and devices, producing graduates equipped to positively impact society. Our esteemed faculty-researchers lead the charge in developing cutting-edge medical devices, innovative therapies, and enhanced treatments, securing funding from prestigious entities such as the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, private foundations, and biotechnology companies.

Over the past decade, the growth of life science and engineering research and education at Rowan has been remarkable, with our experts consistently providing solutions to current and future challenges. Our focus areas include the establishment of three prominent institutes: the Institute for Health Equity, the Cardiovascular Institute, and the Institute for Regenerative Medicine & Transplantation, capitalizing on the collective strengths of Rowan and Virtua.

Our diverse array of programs in life science and engineering spans doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate levels, encompassing fields such as cell and molecular biology, translational biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering, and more. Additionally, we offer innovative dual physician-scientist and engineering programs in health sciences and engineering, further solidifying our commitment to interdisciplinary excellence and societal impact.
