Rowan Core

All first-time Freshmen starting in Fall 2018 or after must complete the University Rowan Core Requirements as described in Undergraduate Program Requirements  .

¹Sophomore Admission: After completing their freshman year or 30 credits, students who meet the criteria listed below may apply to this program: 

• Minimum overall GPA of 3.3 in undergraduate coursework;
• Completion of the Statistical Literacy (STAT02.102 or Statistics I (STAT02.260) with at least a C;
• Completion of at least two Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management core courses.

Junior Admission: After earning 60 credits, students who apply to the program must meet the criteria listed below:

• Minimum overall GPA of 3.3 in undergraduate coursework and completion of Statistical Literacy (STAT02.102 or Statistics I (STAT02.260) with at least a C;
• Completion of at least five of the DPEM courses listed below with at least a C in each course:

• International Terrorism LAWJ05.326; Natural and Technological Hazards DPEM 00391; Disaster Planning, Mitigation, and Recovery DPEM43.400; Incident Command: Theory and Practice DPEM00.211; Emergency Operations and Business Continuity DPEM43.395; Public Leadership in Crisis Management & Communications DPEM 00410; Critical Infrastructure in Emergency Management and Homeland Security DPEM 00310; SOC 08. 328 Sociology of Disasters and Crisis; Research Methods Choice Course

Senior Admissions: After earning (90 credits): To begin the M.S. program in their senior year, students who have been accepted into this ADD must meet the criteria listed below. The graduate coordinator of the M.S. program will assess whether the student has met the requirements necessary to begin taking courses in the M.S. In Emergency and Threat Response Management. 

• Meet with Director of M.S. program to review course work and requirements related to the M.S.;
• Have completed the DPEM 00370 - Research and Data Analysis in Emergency Management and Homeland Security or approved research methods course
• Complete at least 90 credits with a 3.3 overall GPA and a 3.0 in all DPEM major courses;
• Complete eight (8) of the following BA-DPEM requirements listed below:
• International Terrorism LAWJ05.326; Natural and Technological Hazards DPEM 00391; Disaster Planning, Mitigation, and Recovery DPEM43.400; Incident Command: Theory and Practice DPEM00.211;  Emergency Operations and Business Continuity DPEM43.395 Public Leadership in Crisis Management & Communications DPEM 00410; Critical Infrastructure in Emergency Management and Homeland Security DPEM 00310; Sociology of Disasters and Crisis SOC 08.328; DPEM Elective (focus area course- 3 s.h.);  DPEM Elective (focus area course - 3 s.h.)

²The Rowan Core requirements are waived for transfer students with an earned A.A. or A.S. degree from a NJ community/county college

³The Rowan Seminar requirement is waived for all students transferring 24 or more approved credits into Rowan University at the time of initial entry

Contingency for Students who do not Complete Masters program: Students who choose not to complete the Master of Science in Emergency & Threat Response Management will still be eligible to earn the B.A. in Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management.
