The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) provides students with diverse avenues for career
advancement. Upon completion, BSW students are ready to enter the workforce with generalist
knowledge, values, and skills to work with diverse populations across a range of settings.
Students will be prepared for roles such as engagement with clients, needs assessment,
outreach, service linkage, and ongoing monitoring in casework or similar positions.
For those who would like to advance further, the BSW degree provides an opportunity to apply
for an accelerated Master of Social Work degree through Advanced Standing. Only applicants
who have earned a 3.0 from an accredited BSW program are eligible for consideration.

Rowan Core
All first-time Freshmen starting in Fall 2018 or after must complete the University Rowan Core Requirements as described in Undergraduate Program Requirements .
Non-Program Courses: 18 s.h.
Core Courses Required: 18 s.h.
Practice and Advanced Level Courses Required: 30 s.h.
*Students who earn at least a B in the “Required Practice and Advanced level courses” may be able to count these courses towards Advanced Standing for the MSW at Rowan or another MSW program accredited by the Council for Social Work Education (CSWE).
** Benchmark I: To be placed in Practicum I in the fall of senior year, students must:
- Apply for Field Placement by the deadline listed the previous spring (typically March 1).
- Have at least a 2.0 GPA.
- Earn a satisfactory evaluation from the instructor and supervisor for the field component in SWK 01.330 Social Work Policy and Practice.
***Benchmark II: To be placed in Practicum II senior year, students must:
- Have satisfactory evaluation and passing grade from practicum placement I
- Meet CSWE nine core competencies
- Adhere to and uphold NASW Code of Ethics
Social Work Electives: 12 s.h.
Choose any FOUR of the following courses. Additional relevant courses may count with the
approval of the program director.
Total Hours Required for Graduation: 120 s.h.
Students must receive a grade of C or better in all courses satisfying Major requirements.
Students must apply for SWK 01.450 Senior Social Work Practicum in spring of their junior year.
Students must complete 400 supervised hours at an approved social work field practicum and
pass SWK 01.450 Senior Social Work Practicum 1, SWK 01.451 Senior Seminar 1, SWK
01.460 Senior Social Work Practicum 2, and SWK 01.461 Senior Seminar 2.
