Certificate of Undergraduate Study in Middle School Mathematics

The Certificate of Undergraduate Study (CUGS) in Middle School Mathematics (5-8) provides a broad-based practice in the study of mathematics e.g. statistics, geometry, and algebraic thinking that complement courses in elementary education while enabling students to pursue certification in Middle School Mathematics. The teacher candidate will acquire specialized knowledge on building mathematical ideas and experiences drawing from connections and relationships with mathematics they learned in elementary school.

To be awarded the CUGS in Middle School Mathematics, students must complete all courses required for the B.A. in Elementary Education program in addition to the CUGS in Middle School Mathematics with at least a 3.0 (C-) in all coursework. **These courses require that students pass the CLM portion of the Accu-placer test or are SAT exempt. Additional testing and fees required for 5-8th grade Math state certification if they pursue this CUGS.
