Undergraduate Concentration in Spanish for Public Health & Wellness

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Rowan-Virtua Rita & Larry Salva School of Nursing & Health Professions

Health professionals with proficiency in Spanish can connect with Spanish-speaking patients or clients in meaningful ways, allowing them to have a dialogue that is both helpful and comfortable. Thus, by communicating in Spanish, health professionals may better serve the populations in which they work. If students go on to pursue a career within the field of healthcare, they will better assess their patients’ needs, leading to a better quality of care for these patients/clients. Additionally, being able to work in a health setting with Spanish speakers expands career opportunities for our students. An example of a position students may choose is with the Peace Corps. Many of the health positions for the Peace Corps in Central and South America, for example, require Spanish as well as other organizations/associations in our area that value Spanish language skills.

Spanish for Public Health - Students may test into the first Spanish language class (Spanish and Composition - Pre req SPAN05211 or STAMP test
