Undergraduate Concentration in Geographic Information Systems for Public Health & Wellness

This particular concentration is very skills-based focused. Having a working knowledge of tools like Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and its software programs is a critical skillset that is needed in the field of public health.
Wide-ranging public health topics from transportation systems to neighborhood crime to disease outbreaks all require to some degree applications of geographic information systems. This is a coveted skillset held in high regard within the field of public health, and yet many still lack training in it. All the way back to whom some consider one of the founding fathers of modern public health, John Snow, and his investigative work in determining where a cholera outbreak geographically started in 1854, mapping is a key aspect of public health.
