Undergraduate Concentration in Archaeology & Cultural Resource Management

The study and conservation of the archaeological record enable us to find solutions to modern challenges by studying human adaptations in different times and environments. Archaeology encompasses both the application of hard sciences to the material record and the cultural interpretation of that record to create an informed and scientifically founded understanding of the human past. The student pursuing this Concentration may choose a suite of courses directed toward a private sector archaeological career in CRM (Cultural Resource Management). CRM firms operate and contract to survey, document, and perform mitigation excavations before and sometimes during, construction projects. The Public Archaeology course (ANTH 02378) teaches the methods of cultural resource management work and the laws governing that work in the United States. Student may also choose a suite of courses designed to enhance an academic career in archaeology in either the Americanist archaeological field or one oriented toward so-called Old World cultures. Students with this concentration would be well situated to enter graduate programs in archaeological anthropology in the regional subfield of their choice.
