Certificate of Undergraduate Study in Social Studies for Middle School Educators

The Certificate of Undergraduate Study (CUGS) in Social Studies for Middle School Educators is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for the Middle School Social Studies PRAXIS and to teach social studies content for Middle School curriculum. The curriculum has four core courses in history, government and American Studies, and then allows students to expand their knowledge to one other elective social studies course.

Program Requirements

The requirements include the following five courses:

Core Courses: 12 s.h.

Students must take these four courses.

HIST 05150 - United States to 1865 Credits: 3
HIST 05120 - World History since 1500 Credits: 3
POSC 07110 - American Government Credits: 3
AMST 13320 - American Studies in the Classroom-WI Credits: 3

Elective Course: 3 s.h.

Students may elect one of the following courses

GEOG 16110 - Cultural Geography Credits: 3
ECON 04101 - An Introduction to Economics-A Macroeconomic Perspective Credits: 3
HIST 05151 - United States since 1865 Credits: 3
HIST 05100 - The West in the World to 1600 Credits: 3
HIST 05101 - The West in the World since 1600 Credits: 3
