CHE 06241 - Chemical Engineering Fluid Mechanics Credits: 3
The subject of this course is in the area of general fluid flow with an emphasis on fluid flow in pipe systems. Topics covered include hydrostatics, mechanical energy balances with an emphasis on quantifying frictional losses, macroscopic and microscopic momentum balances, pumps, and dimensionless groups. Advanced topics include turbulence, Non-Newtonian fluids, flow through beds of solids, fluidization, 2-phase flow, boundary layers, surface forces and mixing. The course includes appropriate laboratory experiments and computer applications.
